MISSION STATEMENT-

It's about self-empowerment....It's about Self-Imagery...It's about taking control of our own survival...and for the new millennium...It's about diversity.

In 1989 Vega Press-African American Book Publishers, was created to provide a diversity of products that would depict positive gay black male images, and provide an avenue for gay black artists to exhibit their work in prose, graphic arts & photography.

Over the past 20 years, the Press has produced 6 books of poetry/mixed media, 3 books of photography, 2 calendars, and a line of products which include T-shirts, greeting cards, coffee mugs, magnets & posters.

FOUNDER'S BIOGRAPHY-

Born & raised in New York City, Vega is an architect, poet, painter, graphic artist & photographer. As a graphic artist, his early works have appeared in such publications as: The Advocate; Blueboy; BlackOut; and In the Life. As a poet, his work has appeared in several anthologies such as: In Search of Color Everywhere; Brother to Brother; and A Warm December.

In 1989, Vega wrote & published his first book of mixed media (i.e., poetry, illustrations, & photography) titled 'MEN OF COLOR: An Essay on the Black Male Couple', in an effort to fill the void of positive gay black male images. It was then that Vega Press was born. After taking a 10 year hiatus, this author/artist/photographer plans to go full steam ahead and provide many new products for your enjoyment.
